Painting for Training

Did you know? Behavior issues are one of the top reasons for the relinquishment of pets to shelters. That's why we're very excited to be teaming up with The Louisiana SPCA to raise funds for their Training and Behavior department, which provides basic training for shelter dogs and low-cost training services for the public. These shelter training programs and classes address the shelter overpopulation crisis by getting animals into loving homes faster and increasing the likelihood that they stay there once adopted.

How can you help? When you commission a 12" x 12" or 11" x 14" custom pet portrait June 8th - September 1st and specify that you'd like LA-SPCA to benefit, we'll double our usual donation. That means 20% of proceeds from your commission will go directly to LA-SPCA's Training and Behavior department, providing resources for training shelter pets! Order here.

Clark and Barbara have CLASS!

Trainer Tip Tuesday!Take a look at adoptable Clark and his volunteer trainer, Barbara, showing off the skills they learned during our CLASS (Canine Life and Social Skills) training program! This program helps our adoptable dogs by 1) decreasing stress, 2) making them more adoptable and 3) making them more likely to stay in their adoptive homes. Behavior issues are one of the top reasons for the relinquishment of pets to shelters. Programs such as these help to proactively address the overpopulation crisis by getting animals into loving homes faster and increasing the likelihood that they stay there once adopted. Would you like to help? We're looking for volunteer trainers and donations of anti-pull harnesses (Easy Walk, Freedom, Sensation, etc.), soft treats (we heart Pet Botanics and Red Barn food rolls), and treat bags. Contact Kelly Cottrell at kellyc@la-spca.org if you want to be part of the solution.
